There are only a couple of weeks left in the BDL Winter League and both LESC teams were in action last night. Lickey A were away to Bromsgrove Unionist Club and Lickey B hosted Hop Pole A at home.
In Game 1, Cameron Meakin opened for Lickey B but Hop Pole took the win 0-2. Matt Anthony equalised with a 2-0 win in Game 2. Dylan Rowe let a close one go in Game 3 losing 1-2 but Billy Cowsill ensured Lickey remained on terms winning his game 2-0. In Games 5 & 6 Steve Brunn and Alvin Holland lost 0-2 which handed Hop Pole the advantage going into the doubles 2-4 up.
In Game 7, Matt Anthony and Steve Brunn began the fightback handing Hop Pole a 2-0 win. Dylan and Billy won a nervy Game 8 2-1 taking it to a last game decider but Hop Pole kept their resolve beating Mark Wynn-Smith and Roy Davies 0-2 to take the match at the death.
Great match. Final score 4-5
Lickey A started brightly with a 0-2 win for Geoff Nokes in the first match. In Game 2 Paul Prince hit a 180 and won the first leg then uncharacteristically fell apart and lost 2-1. In Game 3 Jason Evans despatched his opponent 0-2 followed by Russell Tolley who won 0-2 too. Ed McManus had scoring issues and lost 0-2 but Steve Groves edged a very close match 1-2 to give Lickey a 2-4 lead going into the doubles.
In Game 7, Paul Read returned from an extended absence to partner Jason to a 0-2 win. In Game 7 the usually strong pairing of Paul And Steve were undone 2-0 and in the final match Jim Mildner and Russell improved the scoreline winning 0-2.
