Last night, LESC hosted their Summer Shootout darts tournament. A unique format 1001 straight-in, double-out, 1 leg knockout with a blind draw. A nice round 16 players signed on which made for a simple round of 16, quarters, semi’s and a final.

In the first match Will Westwood, drew his teammate from Blackwell Club, Rich Rotkirch and won to progress to the Quarter-finals. In Match 2, Jasper faced Russ Tolley who took the honours. In Match 3, Dean Caswell lost a very tight leg against Billy Cowsill. Game 4 saw Ed McManus undone by Steve Groves who progressed to the 2nd Quarter-final. In the 2nd half of the draw Mark Wynn-Smith lost to Cameron Meakin in Game 5 and Steve Brunn made light work of Teddy Glaze in Game 6 too. Paul Prince literally scraped through his first test against Geoff Nokes in Game 7 and in the final match, Daniel Prince almost got the better of Gaz Troth stuck on his doubles to setup a tasty encounter with is Dad in the 4th Quarter-Final.

The first quarter-final pitched two potential winners against each other early such was the blind draw and it was Russ that got over the line first. In the 2nd semi, Billy turned up the heat to setup a semi-final with Russ by beating Steve in the first shock of the night. Cameron despatched Steve Brunn in the 3rd Quarter-final to setup a 2nd semi with Paul Prince who won a very close leg with Gaz Troth and revenge for beating Dan earlier.

In the first Semi-final Russ Tolley was taken all the way by Billy but Russ just saw him off to make the final. In the 2nd semi, Cam and Paul ebbed and flowed with some big scoring and loose darts in equal measure. Towards the end it unravelled slightly for Cam and Paul seized his chance to take it.

In the final, Paul and Russ went toe-to-toe and it took a 102 checkout from Russ to seal the overall win and the £60 prize pot.

Time allowed a doubles KO afterwards so teams were drawn blind again and the format was flicked back to the more traditional 501, Best of 3

In the first Quarter-final Jasper and Russ overhauled Dean and Mark 2-1. In Match 2 Billy and Geoff bettered Ed & Cam 2-1 too to setup the first Semi-final match up. In the 3rd Quarter-final, Steve Groves and Paul Prince despatched Dan Prince and Steve Brunn 2-0 to setup the 2nd semi with Ted and Gaz who qualified with a bye.

In the first Semi-final Jasper and Russ won a tight one again 2-1 to reach the final and in the 2nd Semi, Steve and Paul beat Teddy and Gaz 2-0.

In the final, Paul’s doubles made the difference including a nice 107 finish to take it 2-0 and the overall win for Steve and Paul without losing a leg
