Last night, Lickey A hosted Black Cross in Round #2 of the Summer Cup. A fixture Lickey won in the league last time out but Black Cross had other ideas. Lickey B had no match.

Game 1 was a repeat of their league match with Geoff ‘Dizzy’ Nokes taking on their captain. Black Cross took leg 1 then Geoff pulled a leg back but Black Cross got over the line first in a tense end to take it 1-2. In Game 2, Paul Prince was smashed out the park in leg 1 with Black Cross hitting a 180 plus a string of other power scores. He rallied at the start of of leg 2 with a back-to-back 140 and 100 but a 78 checkout from Black Cross brushed Paul aside 0-2. Jason Evans stopped the rot in Game 3 with a strong 2-0 win and Steve Groves got Lickey back on level terms in Game 4 winning his game 2-0 too. At 2-2, Game 5 was pivotal for either team before the doubles but Gaz Troth couldn’t hold onto his opponent losing 0-2 which handed the advantage to Black Cross.

Lickey were now left needing to win both of their doubles matches to win. In Game 6 Steve and Gaz lost leg 1 but won a very scrappy and tense leg 2 where both teams struggled to take it out on double 1 until Gaz Troth kept Lickey in it. Then they won leg 3 to take the game and level the match 3-3 with a game to play.

In the final Game, Jason and Geoff made a game of it taking it to a final leg decider but Black Cross were the stronger scorers and saw it out 1-2 to take the game and the match. Final score 3-4.
