Both LESC darts teams had another successful night in the latest round of the Bromsgrove Darts League. Lickey hosted Bromsgrove Unionist Club (BUC), while Lickey B were away to Hop Pole A
Lickey A faced a challenging night with 2 players absent but a win would see them cement their 3rd place in Division 2.
Geoff ‘Dizzy’ Nokes opened Lickey’s account facing a tough opponent but got over the line 2-1. In Game 2, Jason Evans brushed aside his opponent 2-0. BUC stopped the rot in Game 3 beating Ed McManus 0-2 but Steve Groves restored Lickey’s lead with a dominant 2-0 win that saw 5 ton plus scores. In Game 5 Jim Mildner was on the wrong end of a 96 checkout and lost 0-2 but Gaz Troth hit back again in Game 6 taking it 2-1
Into the doubles, Jim and Ed made up for their singles defeats winning their game 2-1. It was a similar story for Steve and Gaz taking it 2-1 and Jason and Dizzy made it full-house with a 2-0 win in the final game. Final score 7- 2
Lickey B started strongly with Matt Anthony taking Game 1-2 but Hop Pole hit straight back hard with a 2-0 win over Dean Caswell. Lickey regained the lead in Game 3 with Cameron Meakin winning his game 1-2 but the ding-dong battle continued with Hope Pole taking game 2-1 over Mark Wynn-Smith. In Game 5 Hop Pole took the lead for the first time with a 2-0 win over Steve Brunn and extended in Game 6 beating Dylan Rowe 2-1
4-2 down, Lickey needed to win all their remaining doubles matches to pull off an epic win. Matt and Dean kicked off the comeback with a 0-2 win in Game 7 then Dylan and Cameron piled the pressure on Hop Pole winning 2-0 and taking it to a final game decider. In a tense game Billy Cowsill and Alvin Holland kept their cool and edged the game 1-2 to take the game and the match. Final score 4-5.
