With no league matches on Bank Holiday’s, 12 players signed on for an ad-hoc Round-Robin + KO tournament last night hosted by Paul Prince

3 groups of 4 faced off, hand-picked and seeded for a change with the top 2 going through to the main KO and the bottom 2 playing in a losers KO

In Group 1, Matt Anthony topped the group joined by Geoff ‘Dizzy’ Nokes after a qualifying head-to-head match went his way with Steven Brunn.

In Group 2, Paul opened his account well remaining unbeaten with Gaz Troth hot on his heels.

In Group 3, Billy Cowsill threw some impressive darts to top the group joined by Ed McManus who scraped threw against Colin McKinley in the very last group game.

Into the Losers KO, Steven Brunn got a bye so Colin took on debutant Daniel Prince in his first ever darts tournament. Dan gave a good account of himself taking a leg but ultimately losing 2-1 and setting up Semi-Final 1 vs Steve. In QF 3 Mark-Wynn-Smith was made to work for his 2-1 win too from the other youngster in the field Jasper Brunn, setting up Semi-Final 2 against Cameron Meakin who enjoyed a bye too.

In the first Semi, Colin put Steve away 2-0 and went straight to the final. In the 2nd Semi, it wasn’t so straightforward with Cam grinding out a 2-1 win to claim his spot in the final too

Colin and Cam faced off in their first finals and for a while it looked like Cam would take it comfortably but Colin clawed his way back into the match taking it to 2-2 and a deciding leg with the darts. It was a strong start from Colin too with a ton but Cam came back and nicked it at the death. A great final, final score 3-2 to Cameron Meakin.

In the Main KO, Matt Anthony enjoyed a bye in the quarters setting up Billy and Gaz for the 2nd Quarter. After a scrappy group, Gaz turned up the heat taking out in-form Billy 2-1 in a close one. In QF 2, Paul took a comfortable first leg against Ed but began to stutter in Leg 2 letting Ed back in and then Ed finished it off, holding his nerve when both were stuck on doubles at the end.

In Semi-final 1, Gaz was on it again finding another gear to undo Matt 2-1 with a showboat finish on the bull. In the 2nd semi, Ed faced Geoff, through courtesy of a bye. It was another close-one with Ed scraping through again 2-1 to setup a juicy final with his nemesis Gaz.

After a barrage of trash talk from both sides, the final went to script. 2-2 for a last leg decider with Gaz getting over the line and taking the win. Another great final, final score 3-2 to Gaz Troth.

Another great night. Well done to the young lads Dan and Jasper and thanks to Noreen for the food again
