It was Round #1 of the Summer Cup in the Bromsgrove Darts League last night and both Lickey End teams were drawn at Home. The format for the cup is 5 singles + 2 doubles matches, all 501 straight in, double finish.

Lickey B hosted Catshill Club and which was always going to be a tough night for them. In Game 1 Billy Cowsill got Lickey on the board but narrowly lost 1-2. In Game 2, Dylan faced off against one of the league’s best players and predictably lost 0-2. Game 3, saw Cameron Meakin take a leg too but lose 1-2 and it was a loss in Game 4 too for Mark Wynn-Smith 0-2 handing the match to Catshill, however Dean Caswell saved Lickey’s blushes in Game 5 with a 2-1 win

In the doubles, Colin McKinley and Dean lost 0-2 but Billy and Mark struck back in the last Game 2-0. Final score 2-5

For Lickey A it was a tough night too against Dog and Pheasant. Geoff Nokes started well winning leg 1 but stuttered in the next two giving Dog the game 1-2. In Game 2 Ed McManus struggled to put some scores together and lost 1-2. In Game 3, a nervous Paul Prince lost leg 1 but bounced back to take leg 2. Leg 3 looked long gone with Dog opening with a 140 and a ton but Paul clawed it back to take a very nervy double to win 2-1 and an important game in the match. In Game 4, Steve Groves restored parity with a 2-1 win and in Game 5, Gaz Troth put Lickey in the lead for the first time with a 2-0 win.

In the doubles, Lickey needed one more to get over the line. Steve and Gaz were given a game but settled the match with a 2-1 win. In Game 6, Dog won 0-2 against Jim Mildner and Russ Tolley. It should have been a little easier on paper bit fair play to Dog they gave Lickey a game who had to grind that one out. Final score 4-3 and a place in Round #2
