Both LESC Darts teams were back in action for Week 2 of the Bromsgrove Darts League last night. The B Team hosted the Dog & Pheasant at home while the A Team were away at the Golden Lion in Charford.
The A team were looking to redeem themselves after opening their summer account with a loss last week. In Game 1, Geoff ‘Dizzy’ Nokes started well for Lickey overwhelming his opponent 0-2. In Game 2, Paul Prince had a shocker and allowed Golden to level the match without really getting going, losing 2-0. In Game 3, Steve Groves produced a solid display for a 0-2 win to restore the lead but in Game 4, a ring-rusty Ed McManus struggled to close out his legs and lost a tight game 2-1. In Game 5, Jason Evans was on the wrong end of a 148 checkout and lost another close game 1-2 which gave Lion the lead. We really needed Gaz Troth to restore parity in Game 6 and he duly did winning his match 1-2. All square 3-3 going into the doubles.
Paul and Geoff opened the doubles for Game 7. Both stuttered scoring in a scrappy game but Paul redeemed himself a little taking out both doubles for an important 1-2 win for the team and put pressure on Golden. In Game 8 Steve and Jim Mildner brushed aside their opponents with a 0-2 win with a 180 in there from Steve. And it was a similar story in Game 8 with Jason and Gaz making it 3 from 3 in the doubles for a final score 3-6 on the night.
A win is a win but Lickey made it hard work for themselves leaving room for improvement as the season continues.
At home, Lickey B squared off with the Dog & Pheasant. In Game 1, Matt Anthony started strongly with a 2-0 win. In Game 2, Dean Caswell couldn’t quite get over the line and lost a tight one 1-2. In Game 3, Colin McKinley restored the lead for Lickey with a solid 2-0 win. In Game 4, Mark Wynn-Smith lost 0-2 on his debut for the team and it was a similar story for Alvin Holland in Game 5, losing his match 0-2 too. However Cam Meakin drew Lickey level again in Game 6 winning 2-1. Like the A Team it was all square 3-3 going into the doubles.
In Game 7, Lickey fielded singles-winning duo Matt and Cam but it didn’t happen and they lost 1-2 putting Lickey on the backfoot. In Game 8, Dean and Mark tried to get back on terms but lost 0-2 handing the match to Dog & Pheasant. In Game 8, Alvin and Roy Davies lost 0-2 too to make the final score 3-6
