Last night saw 22 players take part in the LESC Club Doubles Darts Championship. The format was a blind draw for teams with each player taking it in turns to pick a player out of the hat which came up with some interesting player combinations.

11 teams meant 2 groups of 5 & 6 played 501, Best of 3 games with the top 4 teams in each group qualifying through to a KO phase.

In Quarter-Final #1 Dean Caswell & Russell Tolley took on Ed McManus and previous club doubles champ Paul Troth back playing again after a long break. Paul and Ed took the first leg but Dean and Russ hit back with a 122 and checking out 22 in 3 darts for leg 2. Leg 3 went to the wire with Dean and Russ missing 6 darts at D10 which allowed Paul & Ed to come back and checkout a 41 and snatch the game and move on to the semi’s.

After a strong performance in their group, Billy Cowsill and Steve Groves brushed aside Cameron Meakin and Alvin Holland 2-0 in Quarter-Final #2, averaging just under 58 for leg 2 and 54 for the match which meant they faced Paul and Ed in the semi’s.

Quarter-Final #3 saw Paul Prince and his 12 year old team mate Teddy Glaze take on Jack Hemmings and Adrian Marshal. Paul and Teddy started well winning leg 1 with a 112 checkout from Paul. Jack and Adrian were not being rolled over easy though taking leg 2 with a nice tops from Adrian. Leg 3 was a scrappy affair. Adrian and Jack stuttered on their scoring while Paul and Ted needed D1 which Paul saw out in 2 darts.

In the last Quarter-Final, Jason Evans and our Club Singles champ, Geoff ‘Dizzy’ Nokes faced off against ‘Lord’ Dylan Rowe and Paul ‘Rosie’ Read. There was strong scoring from both sides in leg 1 as they went toe-to-toe but Jason and Dizzy won the leg with a 21-darter. The strong scoring continued from Jason and Dizzy in Leg 2 but faltered on D10 taking 8 darts to see out for a 2-0 win to go through and face Paul and Teddy in the semis

Semi-final #1 started well for Paul and Ed. Scoring well and taking out the leg in 24 darts for a 1-0 lead against Billy and Steve. Leg 2 was a scrappy one for both pairs but remained pretty even till the end where Paul and Ed secured a final spot with a 75 checkout and a 2-0 win.

Semi-final #2 was a repeat of their group game where Paul and Ted had taken the glory earlier in the night. Leg 1 was a steady start for both teams but Jason and Dizzy took it with a nice 54 checkout from Jason in 2 darts. Leg 2 was another even affair. Late in the leg Paul hit a 120 missing D15 for a 150 checkout but Jason and Dizzy clawed the leg back and took it on D5 for a 2-0 revenge win.

The final was best of 5 and started well for Ed and Paul, taking Leg 1 after missed darts for the leg from Jason and Dizzy. Leg 2 saw the best celebration of the night from Ed after taking out a 117 checkout for the leg but thought he’d won the match! In Leg 3 Jason and Geoff didn’t make it easy with a 140 in there but a couple of tons saw Paul and Ed take the leg, the match and the championship in 24 darts.
