It was the final games of the Winter Season in the Bromsgrove Darts League last night for our darts teams. Lickey A hosted Greenland Flights from Longbridge and Lickey B were away to The Hope Pole
For The B Team it was another tough game giving away a bye again due to lack of players available. In Game 1 Theo lost 2-0. Game 2 was the bye but in Game 3, Dylan hit back with a 1-2 win but that was it for the singles matches. Colin McKinley, Will Brotherhood and Alvin Holland all lost their games 2-0, 2-0 and 2-1 respectively handing the match to The Hop Pole.
However in the doubles, Lickey stepped up to save themselves from a drubbing. In Game 7, Theo and Will lost 2-0 but Lickey hit back in the final two games. Colin and Dylan won Game 8 1-2 and in the final game, Alvin and Will won 1-2 also. Final score 6-3
The B Team have struggled for numbers this season but with some new players incoming for the Summer League, they should fair better going forwards.
The A Team continued the story of their season. Another headline loss but a very tight match again on the night.
In Game 1 Geoff Nokes came back from 0-1 down with a 106 away to get Lickey on the board first 2-1. In Game 2, Ed McManus rattled their best player taking a scrappy first leg but despite a 116 away in there, he lost a close one 1-2. Paul Prince restored the lead in Game 3 taking it 2-0 but Greenlands hit back again in Game 4 beating Jason Evans 0-2. Game 5 saw some great darts from Steve Groves for a 2-0 win and in Game 6 the singles finished level at 3-3 with Gaz Troth losing to a power scoring Greenlands 0-2 with a 180 in there.
With the match poised, Game 7 saw Jason and Paul ‘Rosie’ Reed beaten 0-2. Lickey needed Game 8 now to take it to the final game but despite darts to win, Ed and Geoff lost 1-2. In the final match, Paul and Steve turned up the heat with some decent scoring and two 72 checkouts for a 2-0 win. Final score 4-5.
It’s been a tough campaign this winter for the A Team. Promoted to Division 1 due to a lack of teams, despite the league position, they’ve given a good account of themselves and taken legs, games and even wins off better teams. The summer league now beckons in Divison 2 (hopefully)
