The Lickey End Darts Teams were in action again this week. Lickey A’s season woes in Div 1 continued with a difficult 4-5 defeat to Hanbury Turn at home. Lickey raced to a 3-0 lead in the singles and then the match began to unravel for them.
In Game 1 Geoff Nokes saw off his opponent 2-1 with a classy 72 checkout in the last leg. Ed McManus bossed the next match 2-0 with a couple of ton throws and Paul Prince won a nervy match 2-0 to make it 3-0 to Lickey after three games.
However, in Game 4, Hanbury turned up the heat beating Steve Groves 1-2. Their run continued with 0-2 defeat against an out-of-sorts Jason Evans and in Game 6, they completed the comeback with a 1-2 win over Gaz Troth.
Into the doubles, Paul Read and Gaz lost the opening game 0-2 which left Steve Groves and Paul Prince requiring a win in the next game to keep the match alive. Hanbury bullied their way to a 0-2 win and the match. In the final game, Ed and Geoff took it out 2-0 to leave the final score 4-5 and the team wondering what could have been.
For Lickey B it was a similar story, a strong start then the match slipped away at South Redditch
Craig Jones opened his account with a 1-2 win, but South Redditch hit back straight away with a 2-0 win against Dylan Rowe in Game 2. In Game 3 Roy Davies lost 0-2 but Matt Anthony restored parity with a 1-2 win in his match. From here South Redditch had the edge with Alvin Holland and Colin McKinley losing their matches 0-2 respectively.
Lickey made it more difficult for South Redditch in the doubles taking each to a final leg decider. In Game 7 Matt and Dylan lost 2-1, unable to get over the line. Game 8 saw Colin and Craig go close again but lose 2-1 and Game 9 was another close one with Alvin and Roy losing 2-1
Both teams now take a couple of weeks off due to cup matches and byes.
