Monday night saw our Darts teams back in Winter League action with its double in & out format which can always throw up some random results.
The A Team were away at Hanbury Turn this week seeking revenge on their cup defeat from a couple of weeks ago.
In Game 1, Ed McManus opened his account winning the first leg of the match, but the next 2 legs were scrappy and he was narrowly beaten. Steve Groves was up next and despite being a little off his game again he dragged Lickey back into the match with a slender 1-2 win. Game 3 was another close one with Geoff Nokes banging in a series of 100+ scores. He lost the first leg but drew level in Leg 2 only to lose a close one on the decider. In Game 4 Paul Prince took the first leg. He struggled and lost Leg 2 but dragged Lickey level, winning the last leg with a nice 177 at just the right time to set up a finish which he took. In Game 5, Jason Evans felt the wrath of their best player who hit a 171 en-route to a 2-0 win. Gaz Troth saw off his opponent 0-2 in Game 6 meaning the match was poised at 3-3 going into the doubles.
In the first match Paul Read and Ed’s 2-0 defeat didn’t really reflect how close the match was. Steve and Paul teamed up again for the second match and Hanbury sealed the win with some heavy scoring from both of their players but Lickey did take a leg. In the final match Gaz and Geoff lost 2-0 despite a 99 away from Geoff and a solid 125 from Gaz.
Final score 6-3
The B Team hosted South Redditch and looked to continue their current run of form against a quality team.
In Game 1, Dylan Rowe was clearly over his recent illness winning 2-1 with a marvellous 160 away helping. For Game 2, it was Craig Jones’ turn to be ill this week and lost his game 0-2 which was the same fate afforded to Roy Davies in Game 3. In Game 4, the ever-reliable Matt Anthony took it 2-1 but South Redditch sealed the match on the singles alone beating Alvin Holland and Anthony Theophanus 0-2 respectively in Games 5 & 6.
Into the doubles, Dylan and Matt lost their game 1-2 but a great performance from Alvin and Craig produced a 2-0 win. In the final match Roy and Theo lost 0-2 giving South Redditch the overall win.
